About This Website

In 2002 I began working for Feathered Friends as a ‘jack-of-all-trades’ employee at their factory, located near South Lake Union in Seattle. After realizing their need for a website and graphic designer, I began working in Photoshop and Front Page learning how to manipulate images and insert them into HTML to create web pages. Over the next few years I was assigned to build their website and help create a new image with as little budget as possible. After the successful launch of their first dynamic website and a campaign to deliver a new line of lightweight sleeping bags and down jackets, Outside Magazine awarded Feathered Friends the ‘Gear of the Year Award’ for the Osprey sleeping bag in 2004.

My second website was for my Bluegrass band Picket Range which is how I learned about developing Flash animations, audio, video and PHP for validating web forms. I successfully installed a web forum for our band and an audio library of our practices for studying.

TonyBentley.com was purchased for the purpose of displaying a portfolio of multimedia I had created as a result of the band, working at Feathered Friends and other small projects. In 2005 I also began working independently for Seattle realtors®, working in graphic design and website development. While self employed I took classes on Adobe ColdFusion MX, ActionScript 2.0 and SQL to further my knowledge specifically in web application development.

Since the first website, TonyBentley.com has been upgraded twice. The first upgrade (2.0) was built in ColdFusion and had two WordPress blogs for my technology endeavors and climbing & skiing adventures.

Version 2.1 included the first use of JQuery, Prototype and ColdFusion 8 for experimenting with AJAX and JavaScript effects. Although I never added the functionality to any of the existing pages, I did develop many applications applied in real-world scenarios.

Version 3.0 is a quantum leap. This website was developed to be backwards compatible with the previous site. Many links to the journals are still being requested from Google and other websites. As web technologies evolve, I hope this website continues to sit on the front line of evolution and that your experience here is one to remember.

Thanks for visiting.

Sincerely,

Tony Bentley
